The parish is, first, a people. Simply stated, it is a people called together by God. It is a people empowered by the Spirit to make increasingly true and obvious their response to God through Christ.
Convalidation
CONVALIDATION of Marriage outside the church
"Marriage convalidation" means to have your marriage "recognized" (or blessed) by the Catholic Church. Those who usually seek a convalidation are a couple that married outside of the Catholic Church. The position of the Catholic Church is very clear on this matter. For a marriage to be recognized by the Catholic Church, it must be performed in a Catholic Church by a Catholic priest or deacon in order for the marriage to be both valid and licit.
Those who marry outside the Catholic Church are not allowed to receive the Sacraments until their civil marriage is “convalidated” or blessed in the Catholic Church. Once a marriage is convalidate, they can then return to full Sacramental life.
For more information on having a civil marriage blessed in the Church, please contact the parish office at (530)365-8573 to make an appointment with a priest or deacon.
